As part of the Veterans Memorial Park Phase III improvements, this Gold Star Families Memorial is a welcome and much deserved tribute to the families who endured the loss of a family member in service to our country. Joining our Park’s existing displays of the 50 foot Flag Pole Plaza, Statue of Liberty replica, Freedom Rock and Veteran’s Shelter - this Memorial will recognize and honor the sacrifices borne here on the home front when our brave men and women made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.
The GSF Monument is a beautiful custom design from a local artist centered around a familiar 7-foot saluting silhouette - cut from a solid dark granite sourced right here in the Midwest. The monument will have a specific solar alignment so that every year the Memorial Day sunrise will create a “golden salute,” saluting the Golden Star within the Memorial.
The Monument
A Gold Star Families Monument will be placed at the center of a 35-foot paved diameter, facing a 3-foot golden limestone star. The Golden Star will be flanked by 6 granite Armed Service Tribute Benches, with 3 on each side defining the perimeter. The GSF Memorial will be fully accessible with ample room for groups and individuals to easily navigate around the Monument while admiring its beauty and paying their respects.
The Memorial
The GSF Memorial will have adjacent parking, easy sidewalk access and will be surrounded by landscaping hand selected to complement its beauty and add to the peaceful privacy, creating a space entirely of its own. By nightfall, a soft perimeter lighting will illuminate the Memorial with a peaceful glow of remembrance - mirroring the timeless symbol of a candle in the window.
